Public Housing Waiting List Now Open


The Lexington Housing Authority (LHA) is now accepting applications ONLY for TWO (2) and THREE (3) bedroom units located at its Public Housing Self-Sufficiency and General Public Housing sites. In addition to the requirements for all General Public Housing programs, the Self-Sufficiency program requires that the head-of-household or spouse/co-head-of-household must demonstrate he/she has been working for at least 37.5 hours per week for Self-Sufficiency I, or 20 hours per week for Self Sufficiency II.  The work requirement is demonstrated by verification of continuous (uninterrupted) employment over the 3 months prior to the eligibility certification or signing a lease for a Self-Sufficiency site.*

*Elderly and disabled persons who meet all of the Self-Sufficiency Housing requirements with the exception of the work requirement may also be eligible for these units.

Instructions on how and where to apply for the wait list are outlined below.

Applicants can apply from anywhere with internet access.  If you do not have internet access, online application assistance is available at all LHA Management Offices including the LHA Central Office, 300 W. New Circle Road, Lexington, KY 40505.

Online applications will be accepted from 12:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2019, until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2019 for the following family sites:

  1. South Lexington Properties
  2. Northwest Lexington Properties
  3. Northeast Lexington Properties


Bedroom Size
At the time of application, the applicant will designate within the parameters outlined below, their bedroom size choice. The applicant family will be placed on the waiting list for the selected bedroom size until placed in housing. The following guidelines will determine each family’s unit size without overcrowding or over-housing:

In determining bedroom size, the LHA will include the presence of children to be born to a pregnant woman, children who are in the process of being adopted, children whose custody is being obtained, children currently under a 50% or more joint custody decree, children who are temporarily away at school, or children who are temporarily in foster care.

The following items MUST be provided at the time of application:

  • The name, date of birth and Social Security number for EVERY person who will be living in your assisted household
  • Current mailing address

Only ONE (1) application may be submitted by an individual, and only ONE (1) group of properties may be selected.

Applicants submitting more than ONE (1) application, or selecting more than ONE (1) group of Family-Site properties will be withdrawn from ALL wait lists.
