INFORMATIONAL HOMEOWNERSHIP MEETING/TOUR FOR SHROPSHIRE AVENUE HOUSES NEXT WEEK
The Lexington Housing Authority (LHA) is pleased to announce an upcoming informational meeting and tour of newly constructed homes located on Shropshire Avenue. The event will take place on Monday, May 4, at 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the LHA Sixth Street Management Office located at 635 E. Sixth Street. The meeting will provide prospective homebuyers with an opportunity to learn more about homeownership opportunities for the five remaining homes currently available for purchase, located at 529 through 561 Shropshire Avenue.
These newly constructed homes range in size from approximately 1,400 to 2,100 square feet and feature a variety of thoughtfully designed floor plans, including three- and four-bedroom options. Each home includes two-car, rear-entry garages and offers between two-and-a-half to three bathrooms. Amenities vary by property and may include farmhouse sinks, tile showers, luxury vinyl plank flooring, carpet, granite and quartz countertops, garbage disposals, dishwashers, and stainless-steel appliances.
To support affordable homeownership, qualifying applicants may be eligible for up to $100,000 in financial assistance, making these homes accessible to a broader range of buyers. “LHA is committed to expanding access to quality, affordable housing while also creating pathways to homeownership,” said Austin Simms, Executive Director. “This development represents an important step in helping families build stability and long-term wealth.”
Interested individuals are encouraged to attend the informational session and tour to learn more about eligibility requirements, the application process, and available financial assistance.

According to the National Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO), HUD sent an email notice to PHA executive directors extending the mandatory compliance date for the new voucher inspection protocol — NSPIRE-V or NSPIRE for vouchers — to February 1, 2027. The extension is being given to “ … give PHAs additional time to implement the requirements effectively.” The Department will provide additional guidance in the form of a PIH notice and notice in the Federal Register.
The email has additional information on the implementation of the new deadline. The extension applies to changes in the definition of Housing Quality Standards (HQS) from the NSPIRE final rule and the HOTMA final rule, though certain changes still remain in effect. The requirements for carbon monoxide and smoke alarms remain in place as those requirements are statutory in nature. Additionally, the lead-based paint visual assessment standards remain unchanged. Current HQS variations and alternative inspection methods remain in place (except for fuel-burning space heaters). Variations and alternative inspection methods must be re-reviewed the sooner of either the date when an agency implements NSPIRE-V or February 1, 2027.
LHA's Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Department will not implement NSPIRE until 07/01/2026. LHA HCV Department will continue using HQS standards until 07/01/2026.
LHA offices are open for in-person visitors by appointment with the following guidelines:
Entrance to all offices is by controlled access; all clients must use the doorbell/intercom system to gain entry to administrative/management offices.
Clients who need to see their specialist or manager will be seen in person by appointment.
Walk-ins will be served in person only if there is staff available to assist them, otherwise walk-in clients will be asked to use the intercom system to conduct their business.
Applications for housing are taken online; applicants who need assistance with an online application may be assisted by LHA staff via phone or in person as necessary.
Maintenance work orders and HCV inspections are ongoing with instructions regarding social distancing (keeping six feet distance from others) to keep clients and LHA employees safe.
Please continue to follow local and federal advisories to stay safe.
