Housing Choice Voucher Specialist
The Lexington Housing Authority is seeking Housing Specialists to join our team! The ideal candidates will have experience in motivational interviewing and service management, as well as proficiency in housing software. Conducts initial assessments of clients' housing needs, works to certify new and existing clients in busy local housing program. Ideal candidates will possess analytical and advanced clerical skills. The ability to work effectively with the public and landlords in determining eligibility for programs is required. Candidates should have a proven record of dealing courteously and tactfully with many kinds of people. Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel is required. A knowledge of, or ability to learn assisted housing programs is preferred. High school diploma required, with bachelor’s degree in business, or related field plus two years interviewing experience in position with a public agency preferred. Salary begins at $37,250.00; $17.91/hr. with an excellent benefits package, including paid health, dental, vision and life insurance, as well as retirement savings opportunities.
The candidate hired will receive a bonus of $750.00 upon completion of six months’ employment, with an additional $750.00 to be paid after one full year of employment.
Housing Manager
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Housing Manager to oversee and manage the daily operations of our Public Housing, Low Income Housing Tax Credit, Project-Based Voucher and Market-rate properties. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient administration of housing programs, maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations, and promoting a safe and welcoming living environment for all residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Property Management: Oversee daily operations of assigned public housing sites, ensuring properties are well-maintained and meet safety and quality standards.
Resident Relations: Serve as a liaison between the housing authority and residents, addressing inquiries, resolving complaints, and maintaining positive relationships.
Compliance: Ensure all housing operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
Financial Management: Assist with budget preparation, track expenses, and manage financial records to maintain cost-effective operations.
Team Leadership: Supervise and support property management staff, including maintenance and administrative teams. Provide training and professional development opportunities.
Inspection and Maintenance Oversight: Coordinate and conduct regular property inspections and ensure timely maintenance and repairs.
Leasing and Occupancy: Manage tenant applications, conduct interviews, and oversee leasing processes, ensuring fair and consistent practices.
Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports regarding occupancy, maintenance, financial performance, and resident feedback.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Management, Real Estate, or a related field. Additional certifications in property management (e.g., CPM, HCCP, or similar) are preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public housing management or a similar property management role. An equivalent combination of education, training and housing management experience may be considered.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal and state housing regulations, fair housing laws, and property management best practices.
Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and property management software.
Other Requirements:
Ability to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies as needed.
Must have a valid driver’s license. Background check and pre-employment drug-screen and physical are required.
